Corporate Information
Founding Directors
The scientific founders of Fios Genomics combine more than 50 years experience in the fields of microarray technology, genomics, bioinformatics and statistics.
Prof. Peter Ghazal, Scientific Lead
Peter is Professor and Head of Division of Pathway Medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School. He was Founding Director of the Scottish Centre for Genomic Technology and Informatics and founded one of the first microarray facilities in both the US and UK. He was previously a Fellow of the NIH, Scholar of the American Leukemia Society and Associate Professor at the Scripps Institute with over 10 years experience in microarray analysis. He has previously founded 2 Biotech companies (Arrayjet Ltd. and Lab 901 Ltd.), is a co-inventor on 8 patents, and has an extensive publication record in the genomics field.
Dr. Tom Freeman, Product Development Lead
Tom as over 15 years experience in gene expression profiling and pathway analysis. He is currently a Group Leader at The Roslin Institute focused on pathway-based approaches to understanding aspects of the immune response. He was previously team leader of the Gene Expression Group at the Sanger Institute which pioneered technologies for expression profiling, particularly for pharmacogenomic analyses. Following this, he led a national microarray service funded by the MRC, BBSRC and LRF at HGMP-RC, on the Hinxton Genome Campus, and was a Senior Research Fellow at the Division of Pathway Medicine. He is the sole inventor on a patent covering an automated slide processor that has been highly successful as a product licensed to Amersham Pharmacia Biotech (now GE) and co-inventor on two other molecular biology patents
Dr. Anton Enright, Bioinformatics and Technical Lead
Anton is a leading bioinformatician and computational biologist with over 10 years expertise in software and algorithm development. He is a group leader at EMBL-EBI, and has worked at leading academic institutions such as The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Trinity College Dublin, and the Computational Biology Center of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. His research interests involve large-scale analysis and visualisation of genomics data and the analysis of microRNAs. Anton is one of the world’s foremost experts in the fields of computational systems biology and microRNA.
Thorsten Forster (MedDok), BioStatistics
Thorsten is a statistical bioinformatician with over 11 years experience in the statistical design and analysis of clinical and biological data. He is currently a biostatistician for the Division of Pathway Medicine, University of Edinburgh, specialising in the statistical analysis of microarray data, microarray analysis standards and microarray meta-analytical techniques. He was previously with the Department of Public Health Sciences, University of Edinburgh, undertaking the analysis and database design for a range of university and industry led clinical and epidemiological studies. He provides expert input on statistical and computational data analysis for all data issues related to microarray platform technology and general analysis strategy.
