Alan Johnston qualified in Biochemistry and postgraduate Business Administration, & holds Fellowships and Chartered status of both The UK Royal Society of Biology and The Royal Society of Chemistry. He is a Member of the Institute of Directors, and spent more than 30 years with Inveresk Research (subsequently Charles River Laboratories) in Edinburgh, initially in practical Safety of Medicines research, then Operations Management, and occupied the position of Commercial Director for the latter 10 years, through the periods of Management Buyout, USA NASDAQ IPO and subsequent mergers.

Dr Sarah Lynagh joined Fios Genomics in April 2012 and has over 20 years’ experience in drug development and commercialisation predominantly within contract research organisations. Sarah was a Research Fellow at Cancer Research UK specialising in the development of novel treatments for colon and ovarian cancers. Max - technical director

Dr Max BylesjöTechnical Director

Max has been with Fios Genomics since September 2012 and joined the Board of Directors in January 2017. A bioinformatician by training, Max is responsible for the operations group including project delivery. In addition, he oversees the R&D of new analysis methods and the IT infrastructure of the company. Max has a PhD in Chemistry and MSc in Engineering Biology, both from Umeå University, Sweden, and has previous commercial experience from senior positions with Sistemic Scotland and Almac Diagnostics.

Martin Ramsay graduated from the University of Edinburgh with MA (Hons) Economics in 1978 and is a CIMA qualified accountant. He gained his experience working for a number of major companies in the UK and Canada. After many years as a director of a mid-sized engineering company, he set up his own business in 2000 to provide director-level financial and administrative services to young companies and currently helps a number of clients in the SME sector.

Prof Alistair Strachan graduated BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and PhD in Biochemistry and Immunology from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and later, BBA (Hons) and MBA from the University of Stellenbosch Graduate School of Business, Cape Town.
He commenced his career in medical research at the bench but transitioned into the management of research, notably in launching and managing the Action TB partnership between the South African Medical Research Council, Glaxo Welcome, and an international academic network.

Professor Peter Ghazal OBE FMedSci held the Sêr Cymru II Chair of Systems Medicine at Cardiff Medical School, Systems Immunity Research Institute and Honorary Professor at the University of Bristol Medical School. He was previously the founding Director of the Scottish Centre for Genomic Technology and Informatics and former Head of the Division of Pathway Medicine, Associate Director of Centre for Synthetic and Systems Biology at Edinburgh University.
