Epigenetics is the study of physical modifications of DNA which do not alter the underlying genetic sequence. These types of modifications are dynamic and can occur naturally, through tightly regulated processes. Inappropriate epigenetic modification can have long-lasting effects, as well as deleterious results in a cell or tissue.

Understanding where or how epigenetic changes could be altered or reversed may lead to the development and marketing of novel therapies.
