Drug Discovery & Development Bioinformatics Service Provider

Fios Genomics is a bioinformatics service provider to many top biotech and pharmaceutical companies focused on drug discovery and development.  However, they like to keep us a secret. Who can blame them? Drug discovery and development is extremely competitive and secretive, and we provide a competitive edge.

The Drug Discovery and Development Race

Drug development takes years and requires vast sums of money. In fact, the cost of developing a drug can be anywhere between £350 million and £2 billion; and the process can take up to 15 years. Unfortunately, it is often the case that this investment of time and resources is fruitless. As a matter of fact, the failure rate in drug development is over 96%*. That means that over 96% of drugs being developed never make it to market.

Some drug candidates fail at the very last hurdle, when it comes to regulatory approval. Even after investing vast amounts of time and money developing a drug that is safe and does what it is supposed to; a drug may still not receive approval to be entered on to the market. This is because some regulators like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have a key requirement for all new drugs entering the market. This requirement is that the new drug must be better than drugs currently available for the same purpose. For example, the new drug could be ‘better’ because it has less side effects or works faster. If a company can’t show that their new drug is better than what’s currently available, it won’t be approved.

This is why drug development is a race. No company wants to spend all that time and money developing a new drug, better than those currently on the market, just to find out that another company submitted their similar drug for approval first.

Why Bioinformatics is important in Drug Discovery and Development

Since drug discovery and development is a race, companies want to save time wherever possible. This is one of the reasons why bioinformatics analyses are so important.  A good bioinformatics service provider can produce time-saving insights at each stage of the drug discovery and development process. For example, at the preclinical stage we can use bioinformatics to identify and validate drug targets and leads or to compare the performance of different drug formulations. Then, at the clinical stage we can use bioinformatics analyses to reveal key insights in the vast amounts of data generated by phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials.

Bioinformatic approaches also enable biotech and pharmaceutical companies to see the bigger picture in their data. This is because a bioinformatics service provider, like Fios Genomics, can integrate many different data types together to reveal insights that are relevant to a company’s drug development goals. For example, we can integrate clinical development data such as proteomics data with pharmacokinetics (PK) data to assess patient outcomes after treatment and relate response to exposure.

Why Fios is a ‘secret’ bioinformatics service provider

Fios Genomics isn’t just any bioinformatics service provider – we’re an excellent one. We know this because we have a 95% repeat business rate and because our clients tell us that they are happy with our work. However, since drug discovery is such a competitive race, most of our pharma and biotech clients don’t want to let others know that they use our service. We are the secret time-saving weapon that they don’t want their competitors to know about. We understand and respect this, which is why don’t share client names or project details when discussing our expertise or experience with potential clients. Except, of course, when we have permission to do so.

The clients we CAN tell you about

Fortunately, many clients have given us permission to let you know that we have worked with them. Some of these clients are shown below:
