Our New Edinburgh Bioinformatics Office!

As an Edinburgh-based bioinformatics company, Fios Genomics has always been proud to be located within Edinburgh BioQuarter. Since the BioQuarter is a hub of life sciences innovation and ground-breaking medical research, it is an ideal fit for a bioinformatics company like Fios.

However, after 10 years there, we found ourselves outgrowing our office space. Indeed, during the pandemic, the Fios Genomics team doubled in size. This wasn’t a problem during the last couple of years as Fios went fully remote. Our remote working capabilities bring us many benefits – for example, our bioinformaticians no longer need to be Edinburgh-based. In fact, we have been able to recruit bioinformatics expertise from all over the UK.

Of course, teams need to get together every now and then; and after the pandemic, many of our colleagues have been eager to work from the office to catch up with colleagues and get a change of scenery. It is therefore fortunate that we have moved into a larger office space to accommodate this.

Designed with Fios in mind

In fact, we designed our new office to meet the changing needs of our workforce. Everyone at Fios Genomics still has the option to work remotely so our new office design focuses on hot-desking, with bookable desks and also lockers so colleagues can keep any supplies they need at the office.

During the pandemic, we realised just how important socialising with colleagues is to create a positive work environment with cohesive teams. We are proud of the Fios Genomics team and all of the efforts they have made to maintain social links and welcome colleagues who joined us during lock-downs. Our new office has been designed with socialising in mind – we are excited to show off our large new kitchen which is ideal for grabbing a spot of lunch with colleagues or just for having a chat around the coffee machine.

Open to clients

Something else we love about our new office is all the great meeting space! This does not only allow for team meetings and company catch-ups; we also welcome clients to discuss their bioinformatics projects with us in person, if Edinburgh is handy for them. Of course, we are also happy to meet remotely or to visit clients, not just in Edinburgh, but all over the globe.

One of the best things about our new office is that we are still within Edinburgh BioQuarter! To accommodate our larger workforce; we moved buildings and you will now find us in BioCube 1 at 13 Little France Road.
